Investing in Learning whether for yourself or for your team to grow your business further is one of the absolute essentials if you want to keep winning. However, a lot of common flawed beliefs hold people back from investing in training. They may think they are taking the right decision but in the long term it is a form of suicide for their business, because any organization that doesn't learn cannot grow.

Let's demolish these 9 false beliefs once and for all so that you know exactly why it is so important to invest in training. This is a somewhat long and detailed article refuting common myths and it is advised that you go through all of it, when you have the time.

Flawed Belief  1- Training is a scam. It doesn't work.

Answer - Training doesn't do the work. You have to do it. And you have to do it consistently over a long period of time to start seeing results. There is no magic pill. Anyone who promises a magic pill that will give stupendous results overnight is definitely a scam.

Flawed Belief 2 - I  don't need training, I know enough about business.

I am sure you would agree that nobody knows about everything under the sun and there is a lot that everybody can learn from each other. Even if you do possess great knowledge in these areas, sometimes you do need to bring in outside consultants to train the team on the same thing because you as a decision maker maybe too busy to do the same or an outside perspective maybe needed.

Flawed Belief 3 - All knowledge in the world is available for Free, why should I invest in a paid program?

Investing in a paid program gives you the opportunity for super accelerated learning. Sure you can gain the same knowledge by going through thousands of books or making your own mistakes but that will take you several years and cost a lot in profits you leave on the table and the losses you make. The truly competent consultants have already done that for you and you can simply absorb knowledge from them in a very short period of time.  Be Wise and understand time is more finite than money.

Furthermore, there is considerable evidence that when people pay for something, they simply value it much more and are much more likely to take action and benefit from it.

Flawed Belief 4 - Training Is Expensive

Not doing training and learning is more expensive and will cost you a lot more in the long run. Is a map or a guide that helps you move in the right direction for a reasonable fees worth it, considering the alternative to that is getting lost completely and losing immense amount of time and money. Training/Consulting make cost a little up front but gives you guidance on the right strategies to make the maximum profits and what to avoid to minimize terrible losses.

Flawed Belief 5 - Training Wastes Time

I am sure, you would agree that working in the wrong direction wastes a hell of a lot of more time.

Flawed Belief 6 - Okay, I will do a single program but I haven't got time for anything more.

Taking one medicine pill, but not finishing the course, will that work. Starting an operation, but leaving it midway. Will that kind of operation ever work? Will doing a single martial arts class ever be of any use in a real life fight? Unless something is done rigorously and constantly till the time it becomes a second nature, it does not serve a purpose in life.

The biggest problem with single programs is the lack of commitment and implementation. Sometimes organizations state that they want one program and they will implement the lessons themselves. The problem is they never do, because they themselves have not learnt it long enough to be able to implement it or scale those lessons across the company. No wonder it wont work. Without guidance, implementation, it is hard to make it work.

Flawed Belief 7 - How can a coach/consultant help me if they haven't ran a business like mine before?!

A surgeon does not need to get heart disease to treat heart disease. The knowledge he has gained over the years through his learning and treating countless patients successfully makes him qualified to perform a surgery. Furthermore, most great surgeons have not invented a brand new form of surgery, they only apply what has been proven to work to the best they can, with added improvements learned from their experience. 

Flawed Belief 8 - Shouldn't I be getting training from someone who has actually built a huge company?

First of all, it is true that the one who is most qualified to give guidance on building a huge business someone who has built a huge business themselves. But, this raises a couple of points

How are you sure what worked for one person in one situation will absolutely be the right decision for you? For all you know, they may have been in the right place at the right time. It is also possible that their business may look massively successful on the outside but maybe crumbling inside? Unless you have access to inside data, you have no way of knowing whether what they are saying is the truth.

 Someone who is actively built and running a huge business simply won't have time to offer detailed guidance to an individual. Forget about them taking out the time to regularly guide the entire team. If the most successful people in the world offered mentoring to entrepreneurs in a way that actually useful to them, the training/coaching industry would not need to exist.

Flawed Belief 9 - If  training/consulting will help my business grow then why aren't many successful coaches running huge companies themselves?

As far as addressing why most successful professional coaches have not built big businesses themselves, here is one view on it. First of all, the training/coaching is a business model that does not generally require a huge infrastructure. Secondly, building a huge company comes with its own set of massive problems. Some of these are a huge time investment,  raising huge amounts of capital, as well as complying with several regulations, operating in a cut throat market and managing thousands of employees.

You should consider the fact that not everyone wants to build such a business and may have other priorities. Not everyone wants to build a Boeing 737. Some experts are happy having built a smaller plane as that may give them a freedom of choice in alignment with their goals.

But the knowledge possessed by such an expert (as long as he/she is credible) is still immensely useful. Remember, accelerated knowledge is one thing, but the scale at which it is applied that makes the biggest impact.

If we go back to the building a plane analogy, right knowledge with small scale leads to a small plane that flies perfectly. Right knowledge with huge scale leads to a successfully operating commercial flight. Wrong knowledge on a huge scale, leads to planes full of hundreds of passengers crashing frequently!

Whether it is creating a small plane and making it operate successfully, or making the larger plane fly, the basic mechanism of aerodynamics is the same. The only difference is the scale and additional technical features. If the consulting person/organization also has the track record of having advised larger aircraft companies and thus demonstrated knowledge of many technical and peripheral features of a larger plane, that makes them even more credible, even if they didn't build a large plane from scratch!

Pandavas :



Exiled for 13 years. Have no kingdom. Their main strength both in terms of political and financial power depends on their friends and relatives : The Pancalas, The Yadavas, The Magadhas and The Chedis.



Kauravas :



In power for 13 years. Duryodhan has been a benevolent king. Theres no guarantee that the Subjects really miss the Pandavas. Not only have they the wealth and power of Hastinapur, but also that of Indraprastha, the kingdom that the Pandvas had taken such labors to build and which had surpassed the Hastina of old in all degrees. Karna had gone on a nation-wide conquering on behalf of Duryodhana. They are the national sovereigns




Motivation



Kauravas :


“Without war, will concede not a needle-prick of earth.” - Duryodhna



Duryodhana was completely focused on the War.It was his moment of truth. He had usurped a kingdom, and he meant to keep it. He had resorted to any means, foul or fair to get the kingdom, which he believed to be rightfully his, and he was in no mood to give it up.



Pandavas :


“We fight over a Kingdom, as dogs over a piece of meat.”-Yudhisthira



The Pandavas had been humiliated, their wife insulted, their kingdom taken. But…still they wanted to avoid the War. The three elder Pandavas were against the War. They even went as far as making an offer that they will stop the War in exchange of 5 villages.

War Lasted : 18 Days. 10 Days (Bhisma), 3 Days(Drona), 1½ Days (Karna) ½ Day (No General),1 Day (Shalya), 1 Night(Ashwatthama)


18th Night of the War :

Ashwatthama slaughtered the Pandava camp in sleep.

Preparation

Kauravas :

Karna went on a country-wide military mission, subdued the different kingdoms and acquired wealth. But it meant a loss in terms of both men and money and creation of new enemies.

Pandavas : Though in exile they turned their attention to improving over their weakness

Arjuna set out on a mission to acquires Divyastras.

Bhima met his brother Hanuman and got a blessing of enhanced strength.

Yudhisthira acquired teachings from the various wise rishis, and also learnt the Game of Dice from Gandharava Chtrasena, lest he was challenged to yet another dice game. Its said that he had become undefeatable in Dice.

Kauravas : Centralized power system. The greatest empire of the time. But not many powerful allies, except from old relations from far off places like Gandhara(Shakuni), Sindhu(Jayadrath) and Kambodia(Camboja - Bhagadutt)

Pandavas : One team. One Goal. As men, they all had huge respect for Krishna and Yudhisthira. While as warriors they were in complete awe of Bhima and Arjuna. Most of them were close relatives – cousins, brother-in-laws, father-in-laws. More than that they all were part of the decision-making process. It was their “common” war.

Individual Motives

Kauravas : Except for Duryodhana nobody wanted the War. All the 4 main generals had strong ties with the Pandavas.

Bhishma(grandchildern) – Wont kill the panadavas. Will kill a thousand soldiers each day.

Drona (students) – Wont kill the Pandavas. Will capture them only.

Shalya (Nakula-Shadeva’s maternal uncle) : Loved the Pandavas and covertly helped them by humiliating Karna

Karna (brother to the Pandavas) : Promised not to kill any of the other Pandavas save Arjuna.

A Team of Traitors.

Pandavas : Common goal. But the individuals had their individual targets. Their own agenda, which just became one with the teams’ agenda.

Dhratsadyumna : Drona.

Shikhandi : Bhisma.

Satayaki – Bhurisravas.

Arjuna – Karna.

Bhima – Duryodhana and his brothers.

Sahadeva – Shakuni and his sons.

Nakula –Karna’s sons.

The Right team is made by selecting the Right Individuals. Get the right man for the right job.




Commitment



Kauravas : Already said the Big 4 had big emotional attachment with the 5 Pandavas. Looking further on their commitment.

Bhisma himself gave away the secret of killing him to the Pandavas.He prolonged the War by killing only inconsequential soldiers. He did not fight a warrior like Shikhandi because of his personal bias.

Drona too indirectly gave away his secret, by saying he was invulnerable as long as he held a weapon. Moreover he abandoned weapons as soon as he knew his son had died.

Karna did not kill Yudhisthira and BHima when he got the chance. He gave away his Kavac and Kundala prior to his War. Karna fled innumerous times from the War when he was hurt. He didn’t save Duhsasana when Bhima was killing him.

Shalya kept on insulting Karna while in Battle.

Pandavas :

Abhimanyu , a 16 year old kid. Ventured beyond enemy lines alone. This was suicide mission but he still went in and took a great part of the army down with him. It took the combined effort of 7 Maharathis to take him down.

Ghatotkach even in death, took with him almost half the army.

Yudhisthira, he knew he couldn’t face Karna in War, but still went in to set an example. Yudhitshira didn't hesitate to tell a lie or a twisted truth when faced with the decision of whether to stick to his personal integrity or welfare of the team.

Krishna took up arms twice and almost entered the War, inspite of his promise, only to be stopped by Arjuna.

The interests of the Individual should never exceed the Team interest.

The best man for a Job is not the one with the best capabilities but one with the greatest commitment.






Right Managers



Krishna : The Greatest Crisis Manager the world has seen.

Yudhisthira : Low-key strategist.

On the first day of the War, he played a Master game. Went over to the Enemy side to seek blessings from Elders. In reality he made a covert deal with them, wherein all of them agreed to help him and unfolded the secrets of defeating them.

While coming back, he took a calculated risk. He made an offer to all the assembled people to change sides if they wanted to. He knew well of the lack of cohesiveness among the Kauravas. Yuyutsu, son of Dhrtarashtra crossed over to the Pandavas. This exposed the weakness of the Kauravas for all to see.

Know your enemies weaknesses and exploit them.

Take Calculated risks.

Inspire, invigorate, counsel your own team in moments of need.

The Roots

Kauravas : Princes brought up in the comfort of the Royal Palace, matured on romanticized ideals of Power, Fame, Courage and Valor. No experience of ground reality.

Pandavas :

Spent the greater part of their lives in Poverty. Childhood in the Himalayan foothills among Rishis. One year exile among the poor people of Kuru-Panchala. 12 years of Vanvas and 1 year of Agyatvas.

Experinced with the ground reality. Contact with people from various strata of the society. Sannyasis (celibate monks), Acharyas(Householders, teachers), poor Brahmanas, lower-class Potter.

Different races of people. Rakshasas, Gandharavas, Apsaras, Nagas. People from different regions Uttarkuru, Bengal etc.

A Sense of Sharing. A sense of Brotherhood.

Know ground realities.

Know different ideologies.

Women Empowerment

Kauravas : Patriarchal structure. Bhishma, Drona, Kripa, Dhratarashtra, Vidur, Shakuni, Duryodhana, Karna, Duhsasana. No women in the decision making process.

Gandhari retreated to the Inner Chambers. Nobody listened to her.

Pandavas : Matriarchal Structure.

Kunti was the authority supreme for the Pandavas.

“Whatever my mother says is Dharma to me” : Yudhisthira.

Draupadi was a companion in whatever the Pandavas did. She had a big role in all the decision making. Without her the Pandavas would have most probably reclined to the forests.

Even the younger Pandavas : Ghatotkach, Abhimnanyu and Iravan were brought up by their mothers. So the female influence was huge.

Women = Better Half. Any team which doesn't have women is unbalanced, for the Masculine traits of Aggression and Dominance should be balanced by the Feminine traits of Harmony and Sustenance.

Friend-Definition

In most dictionaries friend is defined as "one who is understanding, caring, and shows concerns for others.". A question to ask one's self is what are the qualities every friend should have. I have had many good friends in my life and i think i know at least 10 qualities every friends should have. Friends are very important to me because friends come right after family. You should not be someone's friend because you need them and leave them when you don't. Friends are there for you at all times as you should be there for them at all times. So friends are reliable, thats one of the qualities i think friends should have. Another important thing is that you can tell him or her anything and they can do the same, so friends should be trustworthy.

Best Friends


Thirdly, i think you should feel comfortable and appreciated as who you are when you are around friends, and that you should never try to be someone else to please them. Therefore i think that friends should like you for who you are and not what you have. Another quality is think a friend should have is respect. This is very important because you have a relationship with him or her, and if there is no respect you can not be at ease around that person. I think that friends should care about each other, because like i said, friends come right after family, and a friend should care, because it is the least you can do when you've been in a friend relationship with someone. A friend should also be able to listen to you, even though he might not necessarily agree with what you say. A friend must always lend an ear when he is there. Another quality every friend should have is loyalty. It is very important in friendship. You have to stick by them, even when they aren't at their best. And congratulate them when they are. Honesty is another important quality every friend should have. You should be able to tell the truth to your friends without hurting their feelings. Some say it helps to be tactful but not many people would want someone to lie to them even to spare their feelings. Another important quality all friends should have is sharing similar interests. It makes things much easier because there's always something to talk about and conversations are much more interesting for both people. Even though many say diversity spices things up, i think that similar interests is probably what initiates most friendships. A friend who is nice is a very important quality that all friends should have. Because friends should help build your self-esteem through kindness and encouragement while it's the enemy's role to take that away. And no one likes to be a friend with someone who is mean and who will treat them like dirt.



How to Recognize a True Friend

Proverbs 18:24 says, "A man that hath friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother."


Over the course of our lives, we run into an untold amount of people. Some people boast of the number of friends they have, wearing the number like a prized badge on their clothing. But what is a friend really?


A friend isn't someone that we just put a name to a face and know a few details about. That's an acquaintance, someone that we know of, but we don't really know. It's important to clarify the difference in a friend and an acquaintance because the two are very different. To have an acquaintance turn into a friend would be wonderful. But to have a friend become only an acquaintance would be a heartbreaking loss.


So how do we know who is a friend? How do we recognize them? How does a friend stand out from the throng of people that call themselves our friend, but yet really have no clue as to what a friend really is?


Friends aren't clones of each other. They disagree on things. They don't always see eye to eye on issues. They might have different religious beliefs. They might be years apart in age or they might be the same age. They might come from totally different backgrounds or lifestyles. So what binds them together in such a way that they become friends?


Someone who is a friend puts their friend first. They don't consider themselves when caring for their friend. They think of the welfare and well being of their friend above their own needs. A friend listens and they encourage their friend to talk if they want to talk, and they are just there when no words are said or needed. They give new meaning to caring, because they don't talk about caring for someone, they show it and practice it.


A friend doesn't remind their friend of their past or how many times they failed and messed up. A friend reminds their friend that they are special and that they are loved, as they are, even when the friend doesn't feel so loved or special. A friend doesn't judge their friend, but neither do they tell them a wrong is right or okay. And most of all, a friend often knows their friend as well or better than the friend knows themselves.

How can we find true friendship in this often phony, temporary world? Friendship involves recognition or familiarity with another's personality. Friends often share likes and dislikes, interests, pursuits, and passion.

How can we recognize potential friendship? Signs include a mutual desire for companionship and perhaps a common bond of some kind. Beyond that, genuine friendship involves a shared sense of caring and concern, a desire to see one another grow and develop, and a hope for each other to succeed in all aspects of life. True friendship involves action: doing something for someone else while expecting nothing in return; sharing thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment or negative criticism.


True Friendship - Relationship, Trust, Accountability


True friendship involves relationship. Those mutual attributes we mentioned above become the foundation in which recognition transpires into relationship. Many people say, "Oh, he's a good friend of mine," yet they never take time to spend time with that "good friend." Friendship takes time: time to get to know each other, time to build shared memories, time to invest in each other's growth.


Trust is essential to true friendship. We all need someone with whom we can share our lives, thoughts, feelings, and frustrations. We need to be able to share our deepest secrets with someone, without worrying that those secrets will end up on the Internet the next day! Failing to be trustworthy with those intimate secrets can destroy a friendship in a hurry. Faithfulness and loyalty are key to true friendship. Without them, we often feel betrayed, left out, and lonely. In true friendship, there is no backbiting, no negative thoughts, no turning away.


True friendship requires certain accountability factors. Real friends encourage one another and forgive one another where there has been an offense. Genuine friendship supports during times of struggle. Friends are dependable. In true friendship, unconditional love develops. We love our friends no matter what and we always want the best for our friends.


True Friendship - Examples of Real Friendship


True friendship stories are found throughout the Bible. In Genesis 18:17-33, we read about God sharing His intentions with Abraham. Abraham responds by telling God his thoughts and feelings about the situation. God and Abraham are able to do this because they trust and respect each other.


First Samuel 20 focuses on the friendship of David and Jonathan. These two men truly cared for each other and had great trust and confidence in one another. David was running for his life from Jonathan's father, Saul. Jonathan recognized that David was innocent. Because of the true friendship they shared, David survived Saul's assassination attempts and went on to become one of Israel's greatest kings.


Real and true friendship involves freedom of choice, accountability, truth, and forgiveness. Peter and Jesus give us this example: Peter, afraid for his life after Jesus is led away from the Garden of Gethsemane, denies knowing Jesus (John 18). As He is led away by His accusers, Jesus casts a look toward Peter that says, "I knew you would deny Me, and I forgive you" (John 21).


Real friendship looks at the heart, not just the "packaging." Genuine friendship loves for love's sake, not just for what it can get in return. True friendship is both challenging and exciting. It risks, it overlooks faults, and it loves unconditionally, but it also involves being truthful, even though it may hurt. Genuine friendship, also called "agape" love, comes from the Lord. The Lord Jesus calls us His friends and He laid down His life for us (John 15).


Relationships in real life involve different levels of friendships, and that's okay. But humans are designed by God for lasting relationships. Often our isolationist society offers only vague, empty relationships. God wants us to have friends here on earth. Most of all, He wants us to be friends with Him!


God's Word tells us that a friend sticks closer than a brother, and that in order for one to be a friend, one must show themselves friendly . The question is: what type of friend do you desire to be?



"It's harder to make amends with an offended friend than to capture a fortified city. Arguments separate friends like a gate locked with iron bars." When we've offended a true friend - whether by breaking a trust or by speaking the truth with love - we risk losing that friendship. We must be careful not to break the trust. But when not speaking the truth will cause greater hurt in our friend's life, we must be willing to sacrifice our needs for those of our friend. That is true friendship.


If we sometimes offend a friend without meaning to, God's Word offers a solution. It's called forgiveness. There is no greater example than the love of God for us. It so great that He is with us like a friend. He did that in spite of the fact that we have offended Him deeply. We have disobeyed His commands, turned our backs on Him, and followed our own path. So the question remains: What type of friend do you want to be? True friendship forgives and never lost.


Do you need a friend? God wants to be your true friend. Are you longing for companionship? God is always with you. Who do you know who needs a true friend today?
